Troubleshooting a Washing Machine Leak

Troubleshooting a Washing Machine Leak

If you have ever walked into your laundry room and discovered water beginning to pool on the floor, you may have had an immediate sense of panic set in. However, there are many washing machine leaks that have a quick fix, and for more complicated problems, you can always rely on 858Appliance! Here are a few tips for troubleshooting your washing machine leak.

  • One of the most common leak spots is the washer door. This is often due to the seal being dirty or damaged. Try cleaning the door seal. If that doesn’t fix the problem, it may need to be replaced.
  • The soap drawer is another place that leaks are common. In this case, you are either using too much detergent or the wrong type of detergent for the washer you have. Consult the owner’s manual to look for detergent suggestions.
  • If the supply hoses are leaking, the water will be coming from behind the washer. You will likely see it right away if there are any cracks in the hoses that water is coming out of. You can also check the connections both at the water supply and the washer to make sure they are tight.
  • There is also a drain hose that takes water away from the washer after use. Again, make sure there are no cracks and that it is connected properly.

These are the most common sources of leaks although there could be other components of the machine that are contributing to or causing the leak.
